I started playing this game a long time ago, and I constantly experience 'sticker shock' when I look at the amount charged for items. I spend a small amount of actual cash to buy YoCash, but I am not the player that YoWorld would love. Just like in Vegas, I like to play with 'house money'. That said. The cost of items is getting silly. 4,000 YoCoins for a dresser? That should 'cost' about 900? And yet, we don't get a bigger 'salary' when we go to the factory to work!! I think that needs a sever adjustment. We chase down hot dogs and click, click, click. And then we "work" and don't get enough to by the aforementioned dresser!!! I know the game wants us to use up our coins and have to spend actual cash to buy more. I get it. But I don't like it. Thanks for listening.

I dont know

I seen it repeatedly happen to us in retail ..... at first its upscale and affordable. Then over time quality reduced and reduced

I did professional sales, I hated every single thing about it. Sale goals increase every cycle, no matter the outside market - your goal is to met the imaginary line created in the sand by those that dont do the work.....so many are so disconnected from the reality of the markets they are serving they start to lose customers, just a few at first - but soon it starts to become noticeable .

now how do I apply what I have read and know about other business's to BVG .... we know there are sales goals and i'm sure performance measures that must be met - right?

plus we have in game record amount of both coin and yo cash

The higher prices arent a barrier for me, because I sell -- but if you are not selling gem items or unwanted items left over from contests ..... then yes, it would be almost impossible to mine enough coins from the game.

Ad's? -- those not able to view ads are hurt by the increased prices
and I think those w/ a fixed income might be actually offended by the number of cash requests we have seen

meeting the sales goal sort of requires them lure us in right?

I dont see how they can achieve that by dividing us down into the clusters - and then rewarding players in unbalanced ways.

Right there with you. I have not even played the last four themes. I've done no decorating, bought no clothes except what's required for the Gem Events. The cost of everything is exorbitant, there's no way to earn YoCash (no ads, no storylines, nothing, even the Mystery Chests give us pittance) so all the nice things are out of reach unless they're in the AH, which they aren't. And even if they are, on occasion, the price is astronomical. I've been playing for many years and I'm bored. Checking in less and less. Yo is becoming an elite place for a very few who want to spend and compete. Not for the likes of me.

I'm going to play Devil's Advocate for a minute:

BVG has to make real money. The Vikings don't work for free, and the servers aren't free, either. They do run sidebar ads, but many people run ad blockers or don't see sidebar ads because they are VIP or bought yocash that month (the miniscule amount of real money you have to spend to get rid of ads for a month suggests something about how little BVG is really making off of sidebar ads).

It has been YEARS since a dresser cost 900 coins. Just like I can (and do) complain about the price of eggs being upwards of US$3 – saying they used to cost US40¢ less than 5 years ago – it doesn't matter what they cost 5 years ago, they cost US$3+ now. Likewise with the furniture in YW. Yes, sometimes BVG overreaches on the prices, and we can see them correct that pretty quickly when no one buys at the price, but prices have gone up and will continue to go up due to normal inflation.

The amount of in-game currency we can earn without spending a real cent has also gone up. The Royal Rewards calendar and Daily Bonus provide free coins or cash every day. Gift chests provide increasing income the longer you play and level up. The mystery chests provide occasional coin (and even more occassionally, yocash) as well as items that can be sold back to the game for reasonable sums (remember when you'd only get 25 coins for selling mystery chest items back to the game? Now you can get a few hundred coins each, or you can sell the rarer items in the AH.) Jobs pay more now. I know there are a few other ways to make coin that I've seen mentioned, but I can't remember what they are.

Finally, while I appreciate that not everyone who enjoys YW has extra money to spend to play it, the fact is that people who "only play with house money" are probably contributing to the rising cost of everything for all of us. Nothing is really free, even in YW: while a pixel chair may not require a purchase of wood and nails and upholstery, every item we buy in-game does take up memory and processing and whatever other resources somewhere as we play, not to mention the design and support Vikings are real people who require a real paycheck.

Again, I'm playing Devil's Advocate here. I'm not a big fan of the ever-increasing prices, either, but there is always more than one angle to a story.

totally agree and that was when the only way to make a few coins was the factory

Now there is so many way to make coins and or YC
Doing visits gives you 10K
Cashing in chests 35-40K
Doing Jobs another 20-40K
There's possibly another to make it 100k per day
PER DAY
and that's not including selling gems items in AH or selling paintboards or pets in events
or the calendars ( even MORE coin from those )

so 3k for a dresser is a teeny tiny minuscule amount of what we earn per day plus they are much nicer and bigger in proportion dressers now than they were in say 09

I've been interested in reading your comments. And I agree with the "Devil's advocate" reasoning to a point and understand, at least to some degree, the marketing of the game. However.... if the game was not making a profit for the owners, they would, I can only assume, shut it down so fast that it would just be a dot in the rear view mirror! So, I leave that to the people who are making the money. I have amassed LOTS of coins over the years, so I really don't have to worry about spending them, but I can't see how someone just starting to play YoWorld could possibly enjoy the game! I remember when I started it would take me days or weeks to buy a sofa! And how excited I was to finally get it. Now? Lordy, it would take me months!! Well, not something I can solve, but thanks for joining in with all the varying opinions.

I don't tthink anybody forgets that BVG and this game is business, and I also don't think anybody is so stupid not to know that running this game needs a lot of money. I also don't think anybody expects to be able to play this game completely free, we are all not that stupid. Nobody needs to be reminded or moreover, informed of these things. That is like an insult to our intelligence.

I also have noticed from quite some time ago that to play this game relatively decently, more and more real money is needed, more and more items are in YoCash Deals. Besides, as a crack boxes buyer over the years, I also noticed that the odds are getting worse and worse. Now unless I spent more than 350YC, the chance to get an Ultra is nil. You can see that it is being reflected on the AH. If you see ONE Ultra in the AH, you are lucky . I bought FIVE of the $4.99 mystery boxes for exclusive hairs, and ALL five are those hairs already available for the 9YC mystery boxes. Of course I am ultra annoyed.

So their method is not only to increase our $$$ spending, they also decrease the odds of whatever mystery boxes This game is more and more targeted for the wealthy. I won't say I am wealthy, I believe I am just like most of other players here, but there are times I spent like $500 a month for this game. Not anymore, as the more I feel I am expected to spend a lot of real money or YC, the more I resist. It is human nature, it is instinctive, it is self-survival instinct. I hope BVG do not forget this and do not forget the law of diminishing returns. The more you push, the less returns you gain.

Yo is the only thing I really spend entertainment money on, for various reasons, mostly having to do with the health and age of family members. So I'm ok with dropping some money on what I want, but I don't like the new way of buying hairs. It just rubs me the wrong way and I haven't once opened my wallet for it. Maybe it's because for so long I could just buy yocash and a 'fit deal occasionally and stay boujee. I'm not going for this silly upgrade. I'm not buying new stuff for real money daily or even weekly.
In fact it makes me less interested in the game. I'm having to work too hard to acquire things I want, and work is not what I play games for. The minuscule, silly and almost insulting amounts of coins we are able to get in the game are not helpful either. I buy and sell and it's becoming less and less fun. You know why? Because there is less and less people buying. Because they don't have tons of coins either! Everyone is hoarding their coins and the AH is loaded with old stuff that should be being snapped up, but no one is biting. Go look for yourselves, Vikings!
So I don't know what the cure is, but if this game continues like this it may not be for me for too much longer. And I am a die hard Yo. This is the only game I've played for years now.
I totally get that they have to make money, I don't have a problem with it. But I also have to make money, in order to buy their stuff and if I have to work too hard for virtual stuff then I'm not going to keep that up for long.

:drink: first ouch, I spend but never quite that much - I think once it creeped up to 250 one month

here is what I'm chewing on

increases in prices reduce the number items we can buy

same with the gambling odds - they slow down purchases ---- I passed on 4 or 5 items this week alone

SOOO.....

here is where I think we are are .... we are huge, with huge inventory and massive data

We, I'm assuming - are out growing our space .... but BVG would like to keep the game going --

what choices do you make?

What is being discussed on this thread is what is called the "value equation". It is different for each of us but the question is always the same -

Does the game provide you with enough net positive enjoyment to overcome what you spend for it?

The answer is as always - it depends on each of us. Since this equation is a measure of feeling, there is no right or wrong. I lost my mojo for Yo a long time when they strayed away from the darker content. The items I find valuable are no longer made in quantity or delivered to me in a way that I can stomach (I detest gambling).

But I do enjoy the people in Yo that I have met and I like to play dress up and redo my rooms. I can do all of this while paying nothing. So I do appreciate the many of you that still find value in what you buy from BVG. I wish I was one of you...but that's up to BVG.

Well, I guess I'm part of the problem then. But at least I'm still here. So many people have jumped ship. Only seven hundred or so players in YoWorld today. Just a fraction of what it used to be. And they just keep driving them away. Fewer players equals less income. But it makes me wonder if they messed up the ads on purpose to eliminate those of us who are the problem.

The answer from me is No. It is simple biology. As stressful or annoying situations in the game came into the equation, cortisol shot up, dopamine and serotonin plunged down ---> unhappy person.
