Define "rich". With people having +100 mil. at a time, I can't include myself in that category.

If having older items and costumes is rich then I'd say ,for me ,it just happened with time .
I bought everything back when they were cheap or when in stores,and only things I liked. Never bought was was "in" and didn't expect or aim to get rich one day.
I did buy yocash from time to time to get me the things I liked. Besides that , selling things I didn't use or like anymore, has helped along the way.

I never use to have much money or items through out 2009 and 2010, after that I just started collecting cheap stuff and I had LOADS of items but never had much money, then at the start of 2013 I just started selling everything and around the 5th anniversary I had made my first million. After that I just started buying and selling more expensive items and now I have several millions worth of items, I only have 1 million left about now but I have been spending a lot on things I have been wanting for a while. It hasn't really been about getting really rich really fast but I just enjoy buying and selling. I try to do some sort of contest once a month, but I make sure that it is fair, I don't really like giving to people that are richer than me but I also wouldn't give to starter people as they may not be/get dedicated to the game.

I think that if all a player is ever concerned with it getting "rich", they will never be happy because they will always be wanting more.

True i remember how i got rich for the 1st time it's a thanks to Mosa Mahandritiana i meet her in Altons 2 years ago and she gifted me tons of expensive things!

What is rich? I have millions but still not enough to afford my white whale, the only item that I still want and may never get. But I still spend and play, and hope to stumble on a bargain before I give up and spend it all on something else.

buy and sell stuff and haording lol also i met a ton of generous forumers on yoville forums that took me under their wing
