Maybe depends on what I am willing to buy/sell? So maybe the basis is on how I like the item?

If this world didn't have guides, how would I sell/buy? The same way I do now.
Honestly, I try to buy all my stuff from the stores when it comes out. I don't want to miss out on anything, so I buy it in every color/shape/size they offer! This also alleviates any angst I foresee having should I want something I missed. I hate being at the mercy of sellers.

When I do feel the need to buy something I missed, I'll go to the guides as a starting point. Which lately, I've come to realize is a futile exercise as just about every item I've searched, is just not accurately reflected with what the market is actually doing. Sorry...it's just been my experience is all.
I watch the AH for the item I want. Sometimes, it takes days and/or weeks before I'm satisfied that I'm about to pay a fair price. I'm stingy and generally don't like overpaying so I tend to be patient. There's nothing that I NEED or HAVE TO have in this game and I use that to my advantage.

When I sell...and yes, I actually DO sell some stuff...I do pretty much the same. However, I don't use guides to sell. I watch the AH and see what the item is selling for (items that have actual bids...not just the ones posted w/no bids). This could take days/weeks as well, but so far, I've made a killing selling my left over ugly things by using this method.

And honestly, to me...the market is what determines what an item is worth. NOT a guide. I think should the guides disappear tomorrow, folks would be surprised at what their stuff is actually worth. Some would be thrilled...while others, not so much.

I MAKE UP THE PRICES AND PROGRAM IT IN BBC MICRO BASIC...Then I upload into Robot Ears' head ready to buy me what I like!

This is helping now determine real resale value on items. But the guides are a great help in finding new items and learning about them.

I like this method I need to hire the services of some trading broker now. Bo get me down with that Spreadsheet ACtion Bro!
