This was a pathetic change. I'm sorry to everyone who blew yocash on BVG's experiment. I hope whatever you got out of the process was worth it.
I have picked up on the chatter from the mob that more than a few of them specifically tried to down vote the quality entries out of spite for the change to the gem challenge. Since they weren't going to be involved, they wanted to ruin it for those who were.

the really silly thing is that clothing items can be shared around they're not locked in like furniture items are, that YC hair or HH could have been worn by 15 different players if they'd shared at an event .
course then they'd have to trust each other and mobs like that yeah na can't be done

I disagree that clothes should be locked/unwearable for 2+ days. As a pageant player I'd be furious that I couldn't access items needed at any given moment.
This whole "SUPER Gem Event" was destined to fail in terms of overall player satisfaction because the requirements were both hyper-specific and expensive to buy. They dangled a fat 300YC prize for anyone who could hit an all but impossible 5.8. So yeah, many players traded the needed items to be able to play. I'm not at all mad at it and here's why...
Let's break it down -
Online freemium games like YoWorld live and die by the 80/20 rule, aka the Pareto Principle, which states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts.
For the purpose of this conversation, this means that 80% of sales are made by 20% of players. So BVG is catering to those "whales" and they rest of us are left to complain and/or leave the game if we don't like it.
Why do you think everything looks the same? BVG's Marketing Dept. has distilled the sales data which informs the Design Dept.'s creations which are then purchased by the very players that contributed to that data. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's an ouroboros of mediocrity.
Sure BVG tries to create FOMO by placing interesting, unique or "exclusive" items in pay-to-play events, e.g. The Casino, LTO cash deals, loot crates, the Gem Event, etc., to drives sales and tempt players who aren't whales to cough of the cash.
It is what it is, of course BVG has to make money to stay in business and keep our beloved YoWorld alive.
But here's the thing...
It feels like BVG often forgets that without that 80% of us, the remaining 20% would leave the game. The current player base is exceeding small compared to the heyday of YV and early YW and this is a social game after all.
So, to (heavily) paraphrase the great Malcolm Reynolds from tv show Firefly -
"If BVG tries to game you, you try to game 'em right back!"
