Why do people put it in their names and what does it mean?




Yes I know I'm showing my age here but I don't care.

I think it's just for fun or just trying out for boss

These are not my words , copied from an online " Urban Dictionary " .

OBEY
An icon started as street art by the now famous street artist Shepard Fairey in the 80's. This poster, with an image of andre the giant and the words OBEY written in large red print underneath became extremely popular and eventually was put onto clothing. For a good amount of time, the OBEY clothing brand was mostly worn by hipsters, skaters, punks, and other counter cultures, but has recently (in 2012) started being worn by douchebags who in 2006 would all be dressing like 50 cent. This is quite unfortunate. for a further definition of the type of people who now wear OBEY, see swagfag and yolo
i have a friend on facebook who goes to my school whose name on facebook is "Obey Wavy" that is example enough.

Changing my name to "ObeyMe"

Something that parents make you do whether like it or not.

I know who Andre is but never heard the obey thing. I'll ask my hubby. He knows all this stuff.

to the best of my knowledge, "obey" in a name means the person has an inferiority complex and trying to overcompensate by making others obey them

They took something great from the underground and made it mainstream. I am a fan of street art but when they try to please everybody then Banksy happens. Obey should've stayed where it was, away from kids.

Im sure it has nothing to do with art. If you ask me it's a bunch of people trying to make a "gang" or "group of people" So they like to call it. Just like:

-AA
-Ownz
-Obey

All the same imo
