Badges don't really mean anything. There is no sure way to know who is truly new. It's a nice thing to do though!

It's a nice gesture to give away free items...but sometimes the receiver can be rude and can't even say a simple thank you or like others have said...insult you or be ungrateful for what they get...had it happen to me many times but I still do it
