I don’t know how others feel about this, but personally I’m fed up with players posting wtb threads expecting the sellers to figure out prices. I was just looking through the various topics, and finding I have many of the items players wtb, but I’m not gonna waste my time figuring out the value of the items they wtb. Why do players do this? Is it because they genuinely don’t want to spend the time researching, or is it because they hope to find someone who doesn’t know what their items are worth so they can get it cheaper? I know if I wtb an item, I figure out the value, and hm I’m willing to spend before inquiring about it, but I’m also not the type of person that tries to get one over on anybody.

Hey Eric! Regarding the wtb threads, I think it’s normal buyers aren’t stating an offer without interacting with the seller first. This allows the seller to come forward so that both parties can communicate and/or negotiate instead of the possible seller seeing the price and then just passing by. I reckon it may be worth asking these buyers how much they are offering if they haven’t yet stated their offer in their initial post.

Regarding your frustration, I know it well but for me my frustration lies more with BVG and their negligence of a formal database and formal price guide. I know there are people who could care less about having a price guide but I think it would be so helpful. In my experience, without a price guide people are trading less. Less trades means less knowledge regarding prices. Then less knowledge means even less people willing to trade. Like how on earth are people supposed to price check an item that that hasn’t been sold LOL. Worst case scenario is that the buyer doesn’t have a price and you don’t either and nothing happens. I find it hard to fault people if they genuinely don’t know what to offer.

I think if people have no idea what they should offer, maybe they could at least figure out what they are willing to spend. I often have things that I am willing to part with, but with no idea what it's worth I'm not going to spend my time trying to figure it out. If I have to state my price up front then I just pass on by most of the time since I have no clue and I dislike getting taken advantage of. i'm the one that held said item in inventory for probably years and years, and to be told nah, that's too high is a little insulting. if the buyer knows whats too high for them then they know what they are willing to spend.

It makes selling too difficult most of the time. And I don't think BVG is under any compulsion to do a price guide. They have historically been done by players, and of course thats a whole other conversation, given how prices have been manipulated in the past by them.

I'm just saying I'm a lot more likely to sell if I know what the buyer will spend.

It's difficult for a buyer to estimate a price. I have had countless price check posts on various sites ignored by people; Auction House is unreliable as prices can easily be jacked or sold low by sheer luck of someone catching the item as it expires. Many times I have made events wanting to buy something, had a seller come and ask me to offer. I throw my offer, and say upfront I am willing to negotiate if they don't like it and they simply poof without a word. Typically, the seller should state their price as it is their item and they should only sell for what they think it is worth/is fair. Of course that does lead to issues with taking advantage on people, but I cannot be upset I undersold an item if to me that price was fair at the time of a trade. It's a different case if the buyer keeps asking for lower price or offers something completely lowball from the start. Nothing much we can do when the playerbase is dwindling and BVG does not invest in marketing to bring in new people. Trades all around are difficult. Events are sparse and even the Facebook pages for trade centres are dry. I've been struggling to sell a lot of items, and buy items.
