Do the avenues that are for sale at the Realtor's office link your homes or are they just a one screen "yard" to decorate?

not always a yard type scenery, but yes its just a one screen room

I once created a mini city of sorts by linking avenues to homes to avenues to more homes. But after the transfer, some of these homes were stripped of furniture and I have been a bit lazy to redecorate. Someday I will redecorate them, but for now, yes, some of my avenues hold the mini city together

...I'm not sure if I really understand your question...but...

...if you buy a house/avenue at the Realtor's...it will got added to your house/avenue inventory...
...all your houses/avenues can be found if you click the first button on the left side (little house) on your game screen...
...it's above the list of your neighbours...

...then a pop-up comes up which shows you all your homes/avenues...on its right side will come up a scroll bar if you own enough...
...if you click there on one of them...it will take you automatically to this one...
...then you can decorate the room(s) of it...by room edit button...
