It's literally my first day playing.
I joined a room, let them know I am new, and was told that I am not new because I actually put a lot of effort into decorating my apartment. Asserting that I am indeed new was met with "Drop it."
This is a symptom of a toxic community, and I am tired of that sort of thing from other places. I hope very much that I just had the bad luck of having this be my first "Events" experience, and the attitudes therein were not the attitudes of those who play here at-large. Elitism leads to stagnancy. Stagnancy will hurt New Vikings, because with discouragement in a game that's meant to be social, newbies won't find other newbies, will feel ostracised, and will definitely spend neither time nor money here.
The worst part is, for every person like me who knows the value of speaking up, there are ten or more who will quietly just find some other game to play.
Fortunately, I know that the first impression isn't always going to be accurate.
