It means you found one of the items that you needed to find in order to master that job.

Each job has a total amount of items depending on the difficulty of the job. More items= greater payout for that job.

So you found one of the items and if you continue doing that job you will find more until it is mastered. You can repeat the job if you have mastered it.

How many levels are available on the work, with the briefcase, I think I only have 4 different things I can do, ghost hunter, partier, crime buster, animal rescue. Are there more than that?

There are only 4 categories of jobs to choose from with many levels of the job to do depending on what works for you.

So that is it. You are right.
