I've been wanting to create something for a while now and even purchased a couple of properties to use for that. I have just gotten so overwhelmed, I have no idea where to start. I've spent time browsing in the stores checking out what is available, but when I go to the property to begin, my mind goes blank. When you (GrammaPeachy or anyone who wants to answer) did you start with an idea or image in your mind, a specific item you wanted to build something around, or ??? Did you just start using what you had in your inventory or purchase a bunch of items you thought would be good for a project?

I start sometimes with an idea and sometimes something I want to build around. I never go to the store and shop for a room. I always shop while decorating. I will buy items I use a lot of at the store sometimes.
Start with yodoodling. that will help get you started. Then look at things around you in nature. when you see something that catches your deep attention, try to 'paint' that picture in your room. Like I did with Snowdon Forest.
But, like I said, start with yodoodling first. Its a cheap way to practice and get an idea of what you want to create.
We can work on it together some night after you decide what you want to do.

A yodoodle from this morning.

layering is a real issue in with this many items (and there were not really that many) in the normal rooms. I am so addicted the FS rooms.

Thank you for the advice, Peachy! Would you suggest starting with a "regular" room or a FS room? I know the regular rooms are less expensive to do, but are they easier?

I would start with a regular room; ya know, start small and work your way up. In some ways the regular rooms are easier especially when just getting started. They both have the same layering issues, so no advantage in either room there. Some items stay in front, some stay in back, some layer nicely. the more you have in the room the more issues with layering develop.
You don't need to actually cover every inch of your canvas. use as little as possible to create your picture. for example; you have a large rock with grass around it. The grass only needs to just go under the edges of the rock so if you moved the rock you would see the original room under it.
some items that look really nice blended together are hard to get smooth and seamless, but are very worth the effort. It an item refuses to remain in front or on top, try another like item instead. or move the item around some to see if it will work better slightly shifted from where you actually wanted it.
Remember, always take a screen shot of your yodoodles before canceling them. You can look back and study them for improvements ands ideas. you can also share them here and get others thoughts and or advice on them as well.

 Hi KayleeAnna NY,

It was great to see your post in GrammaPeachy's Valentine's Day Contest. Did you use the same room, deep space, to do your room? I should have looked more closely at the background, but I was so drawn to the different things inside the heart. Actually, the heart itself has me intrigued as well.

Just checking to be sure I haven't missed anything here. :) I want to fill my current piggy bank up before the opportunity goes away in a few hours. I decided I may as well buy items for decorating since I've gotten discouraged a few times because I kept running into things I wanted that were yc. However, now that I'm prepared to purchase, I can't remember what items. Can you suggest any that are good to have in general? I'm particularly interested in anything to do with natural elements. What items do you consider to have a big bang for the buck, so to speak?

For starters, I think that piggy bank deal is a waist of money. You get more for your money if you just buy YC outright from my understanding of how it works.
Waterfalls. You can make ponds, lakes and rivers for the most part. there are lots of trees, water, critters and stuff for coins. Waterfalls seem to always be YC.

Well, I didn't do the bank after all, but I did purchase a bunch of items. I got the waterfall and river pieces (I had gotten one from a friend and got one from the calendar event and bought a couple more) from the Safari Adventure, rainforest theme. I bought the Banff national park lake and a mini Niagra falls and a hot springs. I have some animals, but I can't remember which ones go to what themes. lol At least I've got a start on something. Thanks!

I had fun entering GrammaPeachy's contest.
I didn't use the deep space room yet.
I used a room in my Lakefront home.
