I wanted to share two of my Christmas Traditions I have had since I was a child... I still do these traditions to this day and will continue to do so. The first tradition is that we'd go to nursing homes with home-made treats and Christmas ornament to hand out to the older folks there and sing Christmas Carols with them and the staff... we usually do this 2 days before Christmas and it always makes the folks living in the Nursing homes happy since some of them don't have any family left or they don't have family that come to see them. In the process of doing this me and my siblings have become adoptive grandchildren to a lot of these older folks and always keep in touch with them... but it breaks my heart when we hear someone has passed away... we of course will go to their funerals but on one occasion we were accused of looking for hand-outs but the funny part was that the old man that died at that time left nothing to his children that wouldn't visit him, he left everything to the Nursing home! Another tradition we have is getting shoe boxes... wrapping them in wrapping paper... filling them up with things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, cologne, candies, socks, gloves or mittens, hats, a Christmas ornament, beef jerky and some other odds and ends... and then we would mail these to Soldiers that have no family... we'd always find out the names of Soldiers that had no family and then we'd send them these boxes full of goodies. 99% of the time we'd get a thank you letter back from the Soldier saying how much they appreciated the box of goodies and how it made their holidays so much better and we always keep in contact with these Soldiers and kind of adopted them into our family... We've had them over for Thanksgiving if they were on Leave at the time or just randomly when we find out they're on Leave. It always feels so good to make someone's day... and I wanted to pass these Traditions on to all of you in hopes to inspire you to do something great... either within your family, or with a neighbor... or anything... and feel free to take on my family's Traditions if you feel like you'd like to... I highly recommend going to the Nursing homes and making someone's day brighter... a lot of those old folks just love to have someone to talk to or play a game of Chess with. It'll make you feel better too in the long run... Anyways, what are all of your Families Traditions for the Holidays? Feel free to share them here! Later Everyone!
