I'm curious, as a native English speaker can you clearly understand all of a song's lyrics before you actually check the lyrics for the song? I honestly can't for most songs and I'm starting to doubt if I really am a native English speaker. :haha:

Mishearing lyrics and/or poor annunciation by the singer, is one of the greatest laughs there are. I've screwed up so many songs it's not even funny. I think half the fun of karaoke is finding out some lyric I thought I knew was so so wrong. LOL

I think that happens for all the languages, im a native spanish speaker and sometimes i dont understand all lyrics, can be for the fast diction, words that I never heard, or the use of specific words/terms/made phrases for each country where spanish is spoken. So I have to search the lyrics and the meaning, which is good cause even its a silly song, we can learn something new everyday.

I know many arabic native speaker people and also happens there, because I asked sometime about it.

When I first got into Beck, one of the reasons I loved him so much was his usage of: "five paper towels... stuck together.. one and all " in Ramshackle.
Who writes a song singing about paper towels! Geez, way to my heart

... it was "flypaper towns. stuck together...." :haha:

still a genius though

i never hear lyrics correctly but i also like to hear things wrong, it's more fun :drink:

I'm not a native speaker and ngl I rarely even bother trying to get the lyrics if they aren't obvious, even when it comes to songs in my language. :haha:

But then, I get a song stuck in my head and have no clue how to look it up. Aye Google, do you take mmmmmm m m m mmm m mmmm m m as an input? :silly: :wailing:

As a non-native speaker with English as their second of four languages I understand about 85% of the song lyrics of English songs.
If I were to listen to a bunch of new school hip hop I may understand less. I only hear that when customers at work pull up and play new school hip hop, and then I wonder what the heck the artists are saying .

Nope! I have to be activedly listening otherwise it'll just sound like individually words that don't mean anything because the sentences won't really connect in my head if that makes sense.

My favorite was Shaggy's It Wasn't Me.

Banging on the bathroom door. :haha: :haha:

Granted, I was like... 13-ish when I heard this song and misheard the lyrics. But still! :silly:
