Hello Miss Red and welcome to the forums. This topic has been covered ad nauseum in these forums, but I'll do my best to summarize all the info with as little bias as I can.
The old Yo ran on Flash Player. The new one runs on HTML5. BVG had to make the change because Flash Player was retired. HTML5 is a very common gaming platform used by many games. There were other options, but this one was chosen probably because it was relatively cheap to do and was easier to make it fit Yo.
BVG could not predict how this change would impact the performance of the game. There was always a risk that the new Yo would require more out of the machines that would run it. This meant that a lot of the devices that ran Yo before, may not be able to do so after the conversion. This has proven to be true. I call it "running fatter". Yo needs more powerful hardware to make it work.
After 4 months of complaints, we were able to get confirmation from BVG as to just exactly what that means in terms of what kind of a device at a minimum it now takes to play this game. This is called "Minimum Requirements" in gaming lingo. The Minimum Requirements to now play Yo include the following:
1) At least 8GB of RAM, but more is definitely better.
2) At least a 3gHz processor, but faster is better.
If you are running less than these, that is why you are struggling to play Yo. The RAM requirement is without a doubt the most important factor. If your machine is running 4GB, it may be upgradable to 8 or even 12. But paying for the RAM and having it installed, may cost you as much as buying an entirely new device. I have found that the average price of a new desktop device is around $400 and a laptop is around $500. Used ones are cheaper.
I hope this helps you understand
