I had to see my Bel off today, his kidneys were failing him! The vet told me he'd had a blocked urethra for some time, but never showed any signs of being sick until Monday. His levels were off the charts, they couldn't measure them! He was only six years old! They treated his pain and nausea, then sent him to sleep, then stopped his heart. I thought I had ten more years with him! Summer is not going to know what to do now without his little brother to wrestle with! He didn't get to say goodbye to Bel. My poor little Bel kitty! At least he's not hurting and puking anymore! :'( :wailing:

Thank you all! :rose:  I'm missing him fiercely... I'm still shook that he was that sick, and I didn't know! Kidney infections are agonizing, I've had more than one! He'd lost a pound of weight, which for a cat is a LOT! He's not hurting now, and not puking though! He was so distressed every time he puked, and I was so helpless to do more than gently stroke him and murmur soothing words, then wait a bit and try and get a straw's worth of water in him and watch to see could he keep it down! :'( I keep expecting to hear him playing with this toy, or wrestling with Summer, or for him to be right on my ottoman giving me the "pet me hooman" look... Too many days he was one of the only living things I had to talk to. I am just glad he's not suffering now. That's what hurts the most, is the wondering how long was he sick before he showed it? :dizzy: :wailing:

The below is written by me, it is original to me, and I do not give permission for it to be used by anyone but me! Mouse is a toy that Bel loved to cavort with!

There's a cat shaped hole all through this house,
No silly boy to play with mouse,
The window perch is way too quiet,
Where once a turkey caused a riot!
No little guy to demand my pets,
A more stubborn boy I've never met,
But what I wouldn't give,
To tell your brother that you live,
And watch you both frisk and play,
To say "You are fulla beans today!"
To hear your compelling cry,
For the cheese you think is always nigh,
To hear your contented purr,
While you savor a proper stroking of your fur.
To look into those eyes of green,
and say you are the stubbornest cat I've ever seen!
Only to shake my head and admit,
You had me to model it!
Be free little one,
Your pain is gone!
I believe somehow I will see you again one day,
And we will have more time to play!

I'm so very sorry, Katherine. I know how hard it is to make that decision but you did what was best for him.

I'm so sorry, my BooBear went that way - numbers off the chart. And because they hide it all so well it kind of hits you out of the blue. :heartbroken:

So beautiful. So heartfelt. You did the right thing, I'm sure you know this. It's so difficult to have a furry or feathered family member cross the bridge, even harder to help them go. I feel your pain, I've been there. There will be times you'll agonize asking yourself "What more could I have done?" but there was nothing, nothing you could have done, except for what you did, and you did it out of pure love. I know your heart is broken, but be glad he was sent to a loving home and family for the short time he had.

Sometimes we are sent a tiny family member who was never meant to be on ~this~ side of the bridge very long. They come to us to be shown as much love and affection by us as we can before they go. ~That~ is our purpose, and you fullfilled yours, very well.

Omg. My deepest condolences for you..
Like Pepsi said above, what you did was purely out of love. I am sure the little beautiful boy knows this, he knows your heart more, and is giving you the tightest hugs his little fur soul could manage before he waits for you in pet heaven to see you.

So sorry for you loss! It's so hard to say goodbye to our cats. My cat died last year and I still miss him, he was my little buddy. Hard to make the decision to put him to sleep, we had to do that to our dog, was so sad. She was the sweetest ever. These pets become family members.
