First time in 25 years we had to cancel our summer trip to Bosnia and Croatia... :'(

At moment, the advice is not to go there unless it is really necessary: Death of family member or because of some business stuff ( with all documents and all procedures )

Many problems at borders in Europe, it changes daily, depending on daily situation in some countries...

That means I still can't visit my mother and family...I haven't seen them since last summer... I know I am not the only one, but it hurts very much, more than I can describe...

How is situation in your cases? Any traveling plans this year?

I’m sorry that you can’t see them. I hope things get better really soon, though we may have to adjust to this new normal.

I’ve always loved traveling to new places, and sadly, the pandemic has put a temporary halt to that. In the beginning of March, I was in Spain when things really got out of control. We had to cancel our plans for the rest of our time there. I was planning to visit San Francisco in May (before the pandemic ofc) and that didn’t pan out either. In December, I hope to be able to go to Puerto Rico to visit my family for the holidays.

I can't go see my sister who lives in another country and just finished her cancer treatment.

Yes, it sucks.

I'm so sorry, Mata. That's really crappy & I can't even imagine what you and your sister must be going through not being able to visit each other under these circumstances.

I'm sending loads of healing thoughts to your sister.

Travel is truly a roll of the dice.....but so is everything. This virus has people so twisted up in the fear vice that they can't see or think straight. I'm glad that the majority of Texans decided to finally place nice and mask up. I think it will help a little. But the reality that people fail to understand is this - no matter how long we try to flatten that curve............the curve is still coming for us all. Every single person on this planet will eventually be exposed to this damn thing. Too many will die. Most will be fine. And life will go on. And yeah if you're one of those holding out hope for a vaccine...........remember that the annual flu shot is only good for 20-50% of the current strains. Covid is in the same family. The strains will be endless. Every single person will eventually be exposed to a strain. That's how these things work.

Are you saying that traveling should still take place, or that travel plans shouldn't be canceled?

Our government has recently introduced quarantine free travel to 75 countries not including the US, Canada and Sweden strangely - some countries on the list won't even allow tourists in, I think it's very misguided. I'm still hoping to go to France next month if everything goes to plan with openings / Macron and co.

I'm saying people should do what they are comfortable doing. The 'bunker down' mentality is fine for those who want it. But many people would prefer to move on and accept the reality of the virus - win or lose.

That's harsh for some people to accept, and they spend energy trying to shame each other for whichever view they hold. But the truth is that if people are comfortable traveling, they should. If not, stay home. And let the impact of those decisions be what they are.

Well since it is just us girls and this is Off Topic.......

I am fascinated by the psychology of this virus. I am fascinated by the ignorance of both science and biology displayed by leadership and the population. And I am seriously impressed by the power of regular and social media to spread misinformation and panic. It seems as if every person has an agenda, and they grasp any shred of data no matter how incorrect or misleading it is to support their established conclusions, desires, or political views. Humanity is a fickle species with no regard for truth. They spin anything to fit whatever makes them feel good, no matter what the evidence says and certainly without regard or respect of the opinions of anyone else. We simply discount the truth, disregard opposing views, and take whatever stand we want to take no matter how wrong it is.

What happened to the careful discernment of news and information? What happened to being considerate and understanding? When did people stop being able to admit they were fully or partially wrong and change their minds?

FACTS
This virus is killing some people (533K as of today).
This virus isn't killing everyone it infects that was tested (10.9M or 95.1% (and rising)).
This virus does not show symptoms in about 81% of positive cases tested.
This virus is highly contagious.
Antibody tests show the actual infection rate to be 14 to 85 times the positive tested cases (depends on location tested).
Based on antibody testing, the true death rate is well under 1% (but these are STILL lives  ).
This virus is much deadlier the older and sicker someone is.
Some 27 million Americans have lost incomes related to the economic shutdowns for all or some periods.
Economic contractions of between 4-17% are expected depending on country (US range is estimated 7-9%).

All of those facts can be construed any way someone chooses. But they do not change the truth. They are simply the facts. People need to learn to validate their data and stop relying on someone else's. And yes, go FIND THESE NUMBERS for yourself. DON'T trust my dumb ass. They are out there for the seeking from reliable sources. And start making less emotional conclusions about the virus, the economy, and our idiotic global leadership. And for goodness sake don't rely on the media that makes MONEY off your emotions. They are going to show you whatever gets your motor wound up to sell ads.

 Yes they was. Referring to bolded. I lost my sister to this. She was young still only 10 years older than me. People should decide for themselves but at the same time be respectful and mindful of what this truly is. Not saying fear it but respect it. Lives are lost and some changed forever. Just because you may not know someone who has it or had it does not mean the lives lost are not as important. It does not make it any less real. Some of the things I have read on social media makes me not want to even look at it most days. I continued volunteering after my sister passed because I refuse to let it control my life. It gave me a sense of purpose during that time. Like I was smacking it right in the eye. That and I got to help many in need. You can't let fear control you but at the same time people need to understand this is in no way a joke as I have seen so many making it out to be. Myself included here. I am just as guilty as not taking it as serious either. Not all victims are elderly, and even if they was how the hell is that okay? Again referring to things I have seen on social media platforms. Any amount of lives lost or ruined from this is not okay. I have stayed away from most convos concerning this because yeah after losing someone I am emotional over it and a bit pissed off as well but even still it does not scare me in the least. I do however respect it a little more now. Be smart, be safe not just for your self but others, and live your best life people and let others do the same. I hope you Denna and Mata both get to see your family soon.

Thanks! I'm hoping so too! I'm actually getting the train instead of flying, it's easier than dealing with airports right now anyway and I've always wanted to try out the Eurostar.
