Living in Texas is entertaining. Over 1/3rd of the people here now, weren't born here - including me. Talking with people here about any issue, can be a roller coaster of fact, fiction, and fantasy. I'll find someone who is highly logical, and they'll believe some things that they "heard about on social media" that are fabricated lies. Or I'll find someone who is not very grounded in reality, and they'll have center points in their thinking that are rock solid, but they'll have built up falsehoods around that tent pole.

People used to be open to discussing ideas. They might even change their minds when confronted with new information. But it seems now that people develop their views, and then just grab whatever bits of data they come across that validate how they already feel. They don't even care about truth. They just want whatever they think or feel about something to be right, no matter how untrue the facts they based their thoughts and emotions on are.

I don't think it's healthy for people to be stuck in their mindsets. If we simply call properly sourced evidence or information a "lie" when it refutes what we think or feel, we have chosen to live within a fabrication of our own making. I do understand that media and governments manipulate information for their benefit and to our detriment. They are no longer trustworthy. But choosing to discount everything because of that reason seems a dangerous path for any individual. Because then it literally becomes whatever we think or feel is our own version of truth, no matter how untrue it is.

I'm not really looking for answers here. I'm mostly venting because it has become exceedingly difficult to communicate truth to a great number of people. They don't want truth. They only want their version of it. And that house of cards is a shallow foundation on which to exist. No wonder anxiety and depression are rampant in society. Too many people have no real core to their existence except for their fabricated reality. They live in a sea of doubt with no foundation to anchor them.

*sigh*

I just got twitter-triggered, but realizing that I just have to remember that it's a part of life, and hardly the main feature.

As a 51 year old chic, who isn't like most old ladies let me tell you - I have seen 2 generations grow and change and remain the same. I am a fan of critical thinking and logic and rationality, but that doesn't mean I need to be superior and smarter than thou and I have become SO much more patient than I used to be, mostly because I see the stupidity of others as something I likely once suffered from, if not for the same reason I had a similar reaction so all of it has become a classroom for me to learn how to deal with those who are only reflecting some part of me at some time.

This being said, I am also an old 4-chan troll from the old days, and don't mind takin the occasional leak in the mainstream as well.

My thought on your stream of consciousness: Too much echo, not enough silence! o_o Edit: Not you, other people with their beliefs. Echo...chambers galore!

4-chan...LOL! OMG! Too funny!
We're the same age. I'll be 52 on Sunday.
I've found that the older I get, the less patience for sheer BS I have. Logic and critical thinking are two commodities in short supply these days, along with common sense. I think they were cleared off the shelf long before toilet paper was.

I actually have less patience with bs too, tho to me that's not a good thing, I try to stay open minded and I find I dismiss quicker than I used to- for the value of critical thinking, I prefer not to do that. But while I am less patient with ideas, I am far more patient with actual people. Hate the belief, love the believer kinda thing I guess.

I do not trend as much I used to, I tend to agree with a majority less and less, and lean more and more towards a more independent mindset, and one that people want to follow but can't coz who wants to join the 'figure it out for your f**n self club.

And yes, 4chan... back in the day when it was the wild west of the internet. Now you gotta become a bottom dweller aka deep web to get that kind of uncensored humanity (crosses self).

Ah 4Chan.............I spent my formative years as a teen in there wandering through while perfecting the sacred art of infinite trolling. People in here wonder how I can tolerate the most abusive and argumentative people........should we tell them about 4Chan and the withering ridicule of an unfiltered web? Or would the very mention of those horrors cause their pink protected brains to capsize on the sea of that reality?

:haha:

I never used it, but the screenshots I’ve seen of posts from there aren’t really… good.

It's a place where humanity devolves to its lowest common denominators. It's unfiltered, unmonitored, and nothing is ever off limits. It is the quintessential "hide behind your keyboard" and pop off about anything site. And yes, your list of internet criminals all exist there, along with countless others. It's not for the faint of heart or stomach - at all.

My colleague once said, "Reddit is the front page of the internet, and 4Chan is the septic tank". I can't really speak about Reddit, but the 4Chan part is mostly correct. There are some topics like papercraft and origami which are incredibly nice and useful (or they used to be?), but for boards like /pol/, /b/ and similar, ignorance is bliss if you value your grey matter. :haha:

I can speak from experience as a past user, but reddit is a straight up garbage fire. Between the hive-minded circlejerk, low quality content, and various other issues, reddit is one of the sh*ttiest sites out there. 4chan is just.... 4chan lol.

I use Reddit sometimes, I only lurk and never post, I don’t event have an account, and there are um… ignorant people there but I wouldn’t say they’re neo nazi losers like the “edgy and cool” 4channers. I think most redditors are the opposite in beliefs? I think most are liberal atheists, or at least seem like it.

+ a lot of Redditors are weird. Weird fetish subreddits… I learned a lot I wish I could erase from my mind.

There has been ALOT of neo nazi stuff posted on reddit, along with other alt right garbage. most of the hate subreddits have been banned, but its still a cesspool of ignorance and stupidity

Im a left leaning Atheist myself, and i find many of the posts on that site, to be.... rather cringy.

special mention to the the trash heap known as qoura as well.

Ahh yes, sounds like familiar things. There are some interesting threads, but I prefer the watered-down version that appears across other internet places.

I've really tried to forget Quora exists after reading some things there. The content there is just... beyond me, for the most part.

Never forget, the holy trinity of feet threads in anime, hentai and ecchi boards on 4chan. :haha: I think they are equally nasty on 4chan, if not even nastier.

Not everything is edgy there. Like I said, there are okay parts. What gets the majority of bad publicity are misc boards (and for some reason, fitness).
