Have you read Agatha Christie's The Murder of Roger Ackroyd? (Avoid reviews for the book they will probably give a massive spoiler!) See if you can figure out who did it, how they did it, and why they did it before the meeting Poirot calls happens at almost the end of the book! (He calls for the people to be gathered at the end of one chapter.) How about Agatha Christie's Death Comes As The End? (It's set in ancient Egypt.) I got more but gotta dig up the titles, be back!

Agatha Christie's Miss Marple mystery Sleeping Murder is a good one!

Have you read the Black Widowers Club mysteries by Isaac Asimov?

The Cat Who books by Lilian Jackson Braun can be amusing.

The Midnight Louie books by Carole Nelson Douglas can also be amusing.

Be back!

Midnight Louie is a black cat detective! (Street cat that adopted an adorable short redheaded female human!) The books are told mostly from his perspective! ;)

Almost all of the original Sherlock Holmes books/stories are available on this site! They also have the original artworks too! Jeremy Brett really resembles some of the illustraitions! (My favorite actor to portray him hands down!) Site Home https://ignisart.com/camdenhouse/main.htm
Books https://ignisart.com/camdenhouse/canon/index.html

I'm not sure of the books, haven't gotten to them yet but I love Midsommer Murders the TV show! (Amazon Prime has that with one of their channel subscriptions, I think Britbox? Some of the seasons are free with commericals atm looks like.) Another good one (but a period piece) is the Cadfael TV show on Amazon Prime also! Father Brown (NOT the one featuring the dude who played the father in Happy Days) is also another good TV series. (Also a period piece though.)

Links: (All these are based on book series!)

Brother Cadfael (One of my favorites is A Morbid Taste For Bones in season 2) The seris is set during this time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anarchy (Helps you understand the setting to read up on that just a bit.)

Midsommer Murders season 1

Inspector Lewis is good, he got his own standalone series after his time with Inspector Morse.

Slightly overweight black cat!! Sorry Marple, I think I found my new fav detective (lowkey ashamed I didn’t know this before lol)

& 24 books too?

The cat who 29 books okay we love that

Uhh… 66 books in the Black Widowers series :quiet:

Heh... Don't kick Marple to the curb yet! It all depends on your mood! Midnight Louie is a bit campy, he even talks like a 50s detective rescuing the damsel in distress! The Cat Who cats are Siamese. Qwill (their pet) is a very interesting fellow, and the whole series has quite the supporting cast that you grow to love! The Black Widowers are solid mysteries, usually crime, sometimes murder. BTW,, it isn't 66 BOOKS, it's 66 cases! There are like, six? books with a few cases each! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Widowers

Waittt the cats don’t cover murder cases? These are my favorite crime novels to read  and ohhh 66 cases throughout 6 books? oooo okay I’m sold now

I love Marple :haha: an old lady detective is awesome and I just love having female leads in crime novels

The Cat Who books are pretty awesome! Koko (the male siamese) has extra whiskers and tends to clue Qwill in on things like murder by throwing a massive catfit and giving a certain howl. He does things like hunt down Yum Yum (the female siamese) mercilessly and pursue her, later it turns out a mysterious woman who is a new person in town is being stalked and a bomb at the local hotel was meant for her! He'll knock down books which are clues too, either the title, subject or characters. You just gotta read them, Koko is no ordinary cat! I'll give a spoiler, one of their early cases involves someone going missing (and a pet too) and an artist with very intensely red pottery. The source of the red color ends up being quite macabre and Koko sniffs the pots with a peculiar expression. (The mouth open stank face cats get?)

Check out some of the shows too? Even if your family does not want to watch, the mysteries are engrossing enough you get sucked right in! Try Midsommer Murders on them though. (Though I still love me A Morbid Taste For Bones with Cadfael! The rituals the monks do to scare away evil spirits while they are exhuming the saint are fascinating!)

Okay that sounds pretty wholesome in a way :haha: they sound like good books to read in between serious crime novels- the last crime novel I read was a professional assassin who just kept killing people and getting away with it. Ended with an open ending that made me want to burn the book :grr

Heh, read my edit on this post you quoted, I put in a bit of a spoiler for one of Koko and Qwill's early cases. It was NOT wholesome! Macabre is apt! It's quite often murder with the Cat Who books, with other crimes mixed in. The characters are relatable, and you want to keep reading even if one of the supporting cast is murdered and you loved that character! Read the Cat Who books in order because new characters come in and others leave. The older ones are set in the 70s, and though Qwill ages some, he magically lives to the 2000s and is up to date with the times in later books.

Wait there’s 22 seasons…. 22!! :wailing:

Edit: okay it’s 6 episodes per season but 1 hour and 40 minutes each episode

It hurts that that show genuinely looks like it’s right up my ally (I liked it more than the other one as a style of crime) but 22 seasons? Around 2 hours each episode? Please tell me it’s separate cases each season

Some have like 6 episodes though. ;) It is! I like the first Barnaby best! There's a re-occuring mother and son duo (morticians) that are...fascinating? characters! (Very nosy, and crooked in the end.) In another season they got the same actors to portray the first woman's twin sister and her son! (very tongue-in-cheek) They make it work!

Midsommer Murders Season 7 episode 7 (Ghosts of Christmas Past) is a good one! Finding the one with mother and son morticians. Will edit this post when I find it!

The Killings At Badgers Drift season 1 episode one, Iris and Dennis Rainbird!

Season 9 episode 2 Dead Letters has Iris' sister and nephew! (Played by the same actors, but it works!)
