Hey YoFans,

We just wanted to take a moment and let you all know that as of now posting spoilers for upcoming themes and items are not allowed on the YoWorld forums. (This does not mean that you cannot make casual guesses or theme requests with other forum members.)

This has been something that we have turned a blind eye to for years now, but it is something that we will now be putting an end to.

"Why are you doing this?" you ask?

Well, there are a few reasons:

  • Sometimes, we like to have themes that are a surprise for everyone. Our team puts a lot of time and effort into ensuring themes are kept under lock and key, and if these themes are leaked out earlier, it can give us issues if we are trying to keep it a secret.
  • If we are doing partnerships with other companies, we cannot have the details come out early. These details need to be kept confidential until a specific agreed upon date. Having them leaked early can jeopardize our partnerships with these companies.
  • Finally, some players like to have new themes be a surprise to them. Having the themes leaked out early spoils it for these people

Going forward, leaking out upcoming theme/item details on the forums will result in a warning being issued and the post removed. As with all other warnings, these will follow the strike system that is in place.

Thank you for your understanding and if you have any questions please let us know!

I don't care either way, I'm just glad you guys thought about it and put in a policy. Some players like to know everything 8 months before it happens, and others do not. Protecting the people who do not is probably a good thing.

With that out of the way..............you guys need to start thinking about putting teasers out there YOURSELVES. On FB. Where everyone can see what might be coming. I'm betting you guys get happy when 20% of players participate in a theme - spend more than $10 on theme items. Hype is probably one of THE most important things that businesses can generate around new releases. This game is on SOCIAL MEDIA where hype is almost free. I don't understand the logic around hiding what you are doing until the day it comes out. It is counter productive.

Tease the anticipation
Set the expectation
Deliver or exceed the expectation

This is Marketing 101. Are you worried about delivering the expectation? Cannibalizing current themes? I don't understand the lack of a coordinated push to get players interested in something that is coming? Why do movies start showing up in radio and tv ads a month or 2 before they come out? Buzz buzz buzz......Do you think Disney worries that they've already got 2 movies out that the upcoming movies might steal ticket revenue from? Hell no. They market market market......

I'm just trying to help here. I hope I made a teeny bit of sense.

I would take Rod's suggestions and go with all of them. My question for BVG is how are these people getting the info.?

we are allowed you ask us our opinion on this themes even in surveys if don't like it why you ask it Andrew I don't get this you all get mad at us because we put our opinion on these you have look at our point of view we make time and effort and spend money toward the game many years I have Just like being in the grocery stores that the consumers are always even though magement may not agree but the consumers are always right. because we are the ones that are keeping you going. because we pay for it what would you do if everyone stopped buying your stuff in the stores and started paying from just players . you have to think about what you say on here too and the way you act . if wasn't for us paying for stuff you wouldn't have a business.

I think you have this all wrong because then they do theme surveys people pick on what themes they like to see in this game so they do not give us the results they will check and create the theme in near future so any new themes that get posted on forums that are not out yet classed as an spoiler because us players do not know what themes won the survey!. Posting spoilers on forums always been breaking the rules.

How are FB YoWorld Groups and Pages getting the upcoming Theme information before the Theme is released? That upcoming Theme information is being leaked/provided to them from someone, then they are posting it in their group and on their pages!

BVG doesn't encrypt the upcoming themes info. Anyone with a little internet knowledge can access it.

I don’t give a rat’s ass one way or the other, but the third reason they listed was that people get upset about spoilers because it ruins the element of surprise for them. So why would they do it themselves on FB? It’s the same thing. Then again, some (not ALL, but some) have gone into threads with “spoiler alert” in the title and proceeded to throw tantrums about spoilers when it was RIGHT THERE in the title and could easily have been skipped over. So it’s hard to say how many anti-spoiler peeps can be taken seriously. I suppose they could do it on FB with a spoiler alert, but no doubt the same thing would happen. So Idk. I guess it makes sense with the partnership stuff, but the rest I’m not gonna try to make sense of.

As for the hype, I suppose that would get some people eager to spend. But even when I see a spoiler that could have potential, I can’t get excited until I actually see the theme in the store. I’ve been disappointed by too many themes to get psyched over a spoiler. They’ll have to improve before I get excited. But that’s just me and I can’t speak for anyone else.

Focusing on the second bullet point, does that mean we are going to have partnerships with other companies in the future? Oh wait, that would be a spoiler to say yeah?

Give those of us that love spoilers a spoilers forum in this case. Seems you're only catering to one segment of YoSociety as usual. o_o

How about giving us sneak peeks, that way we can still guess and look forward to it.

Edited to correct spelling error! :D

This is what I'm trying to convince them to do. After week 1 of the current theme, they simply need to do something mysterious on FB and show a few solid items from the upcoming theme to get players talking about what is next. Build the buzz and have people thinking about playing Yo. I don't get why they don't? Maybe if the marketing group didn't spend all day trying to schedule out the next 50 gambling events, they'd have some time for it?

:haha:
