EVERY TIME!!!!!

Ok- what is promised w/ the most expensive chest is that the item will be new …. that means it could be rare or common - but it is the first time released in to the game.

I like this gem, so I have been foolish and spent some cash. I havent been unhappy, even those tiny ice items are dear and they layer in some interesting manner.

The only reason I participate in the Gem event is for the free outfit slot. I'm not even aiming for the 5.8, because there's no way I'm spending money on unattractive hairstyles or overpriced items just to fill the bar. If I don’t absolutely love it, I’m not paying for it—no thanks!

You know, the items in all the chests are actually the same—it’s just the odds that change. The 50, 150, and 230 chests all give you a chance to win items from each tier. The difference is that the odds of getting something rare or special are a bit lower when you open the 250. It even mentions that under the 230 chest description!

you can win the 'rare' or special items from the 50 chest—I’ve done it plenty of times! It’s just the way it's worded that makes it seem like the 230 guarantees something better, when really, it’s more about improving your chances.
the 50 chests give me YC chairs and HH that I don't have or can sell in AH and as they're only 50 I get 5 more items than opening a 230 box
the 50 chests say "common" under them BUT I have got rares from them as well

most times I just open the 150's ...seriously the 230s are a rip off

edited because I accidentally put 250 instead of 230 ...and no one is EVER allowed to make mistakes here

There is no 250 Gem Chest! The 230 Gem Magic Chest only contains brand new Gem Event items, the 50 Gem Wooden Chest Contains 1 Unique Common and the 150 Gem Mega Chest. Contains 1 Unique Rare or Better!

edited my post thank you for pointing out my small mistake

I used to only open the 230 chests hoping to get the best items but then I started to open the 150 chests instead and I am much happier with what I get for the price.

This is me. I open the 150 chests as you get rare or epic prizes. They seem to be the best value. The only time I did the 230 boxes was during the anniversary event this past year as I already had the past items I liked, so I wanted only the new items. Fortunately BVG did not overdo the new items for that event, so I managed to get everything!

Going back to the topic, I watch LyndyPLUSH's monthly event post to see where items fall and sometimes cross-reference the new items on the "site that shall not be mentioned!" If there is something I really want I will haunt the AH for it and purchase it outright just in case I don't win it. There are some things I really like having duplicates of anyway, plus I can always resell if needed.

I've found that the only time purchasing the 230 gem item is the first round. After that, you will find the same items pop up in the lower chests.
