How? By finding an agent and following her around?

There are some honest agents out there who I am sure don't realize how the price guides are manipulated.

of course there are honest members as well.

I don't know since when we have those guides but somehow, with so many themes and so many items, they became a "need"

In 2009 when I started, people weren't using guides since there were a limited amount of rares & expired themes. So almost all players with a little bit of playing experience already knew which item was going for how much. It was a small market with limited stuff.

Now we have way toooooo many items to be able observe personally. I mostly have no idea for how much I should sell an item or how much I should pay for a certain item. So I do use price guides. Even tho I agree that they are not so much reliable, still they provide a refence amount at least.

I hope we get an official price guide too.

I would need a considerable amount of spare time on my hands for that. I may as well write the price guide list myself hahaha.

I don't know who these 'agents' are. Do they have a tag in their name?

Well your making assumptions. The game is full of price jackers so you can''t assume that when you see a lot of wtb a particular item that it is price guides. Well I guess you could... but you know what they say about assumptions.

They have no tags, they are anonymous. No proof of who they are, how they monitor events etc for prices, nothing. All we know is that they want us to believe that the prices are what they tell us they are. Power and control.

I have three price guides Rehab, Yopriceville and Yovillian
Typed in "bouncy" on all three only five bouncy items show four castles one fun piano
one guide shows four at 800-900 piano at 400-500
the other two 1.5million for the four and 400-500 for piano
there are more than five "bouncy" items Moroccan Water Bouncy is one that don't even show up unless you look in Moroccan
and its priced almost the same as the piano
Yovillian will show you all 'food' items well 137 of them the other guides do not even have a 'food' category
I use the guides so I can see what an item is called or when it was released and get a rough idea on price ..almost bought said water bouncy for 2.5mill buy out (starter 1mil ) on AH before I looked on guides and realized it ain't worth that much.
Its worth comparing all three guides and looking at average sale price ... still if you really want that item and its in budget why not click buy ?

Could BVG maybe add the same feature to trade as they did auction house? The one that tells you the average price that the item has sold for in the last few weeks? Would help with prices a lot i think.

I can't imagine they use a true marketing mix as a pricing strategy. I think its all willy-nilly. I'm just curious their objective in creating them. Is it all just to be nice? Or are there ulterior motives?

I do appreciate them being available; but, as stated, use them as they are described - a guide.

I'm not sure how reliable the guides are. I personally think most items, especially the YC ones, are priced pretty low. I think to get an actual idea of what something is worth, you need to know what I tells for in the AH and at sales.

I never knew this about the price guides.

This is going to slow down my plans quite a bit. Since I haven't been active in the game in a few years, I'm out of touch with most happenings and merchandise. I did pop in here and there and buy a few things but would go to forums, read a bit, become alarmed and leave for another month or two.

I'll be buying a few things in bulk as I have a lot of houses to decorate. Some are empty, some are partially done and some I need to recreate. So if you see me buying a lot I am NOT a price jacker. lol

I'm so confused now. Have absolutely no clue how to price all this stuff I plan to sell to raise the coins to replace my most cherished items. Or what to pay for the stuff I want to buy. Guess if I find something, the price is okay with me, I will buy it. If not, I will pass. Same with selling. Guess I will decide what that magic number is that will make me part with part of my hoard.

What exactly would we do without guides? I happen to love them. It gives me an idea of how much something goes for. I don't always go by them but it still gives me an idea.

I put up 2010 Christmas free gift cakes in AH starting at 1 coin and they can sell between 51 coins and 8k
I can put up a ugly pink dress with a silly buy out of 120k and it sells ..like ok then some people is crazy LoL
put up a pile of paris cabinets and they sell for only 1300 coins
I wrote down what I had to sell stuck it up in AH with a buy out a little less than what I saw others put their buy out for and got rid of a pile of stuff
You got 2 options you want to sell and clear it or sell and profit ?
