The indirect begging needs to stop. Those that are guilty know who they are, because they get so very defensive when it is pointed out to them. Then they feel the need to pull out the victim card, which is quite ironic, since so many have been victims of their manipulation. BVG don't allow scamming in the game, they shouldn't allow these manipulative little scammers to operate on the forums either.

What amazes me are all the folks that defend them!
I've seen people being called out, shown proof of of their scammy behavior, yet there are STILL folks that swoop right in and say "There there...don't listen to the haters. They just have a need to bully and be mean to someone!"
I mean...seriously. W.T.H.?? People can not be that naive, right?

I think in some cases, a small amount of the defenders do not see the manipulation. I think the others, are the ones who condone the behavior, because they engage in it themselves. Just an observation. :)

What if a player honestly just wants to vent, without hoping to get anything out of it?
We all have a bad day once in a while and everyone deals with those differently.
Some may not feel comfortable telling people they know in real life and have an easier time posting their sorrows or hardships on a forum, where people only know their avatar looks and what they have posted previously.

I understand there really are players who try to take advantage of others by posting true or made up stories on the forum, but let's not smash everyone into that same pot.

Here's the difference:

Player A: Hey guys anyone around to chat? Been a rough week and I just want to hang out in game and have some fun....

Player B: OMG I AM SO MAD!!!!!!!!!! I was just at a sale trying to buy (insert old rare or much sought after expensive item here) and I was kicked out for being (add what ever will get the most reaction here)!!!!!!!!!!

It is very obvious when someone is being sincere and need to vent as opposed to the player who is looking for sympathy gifts.

What a shame! A fun thread turned serious and now we have people explaining how we can determine if someone is sincere. Why did that have to happen? It was obvious this whole thing was a joke.

Both sides are right , IMO. Yes there are people who try to manipulate others into giving them stuff. But it's the mob mentality that gets people like me to defend them. In a forum environment people start picking on some chosen person every time they say something... anything. Even after they have more or less listened up, stopped telling sad tales and removed the ridiculous wishlist from their siggy. I've seen it happen time and time again and its part of the reason I left forums way back when. There's a person in the forums right now who gets verbally assaulted every time he posts. And I don't think he's been attention/gift seeking for a few days now.
If forum people would give him a chance to show he's changed his ways, he might surprise us. Then again he might not. Trouble is, we will never know. Because the forum paintbrush is apparently forever.

All good points here. on all sides of this ongoing debate, here the last few days. I think tho that most ppl have enough common sense to see whats what for themselves.. and should be allowed to do whatever it is that they want to do here. be it gift be it vent be it scam for free gifts. Its up to us the reader of this forum to decide ourselves what we will do with the info that we read. Its called free-will.

Compassion and understanding and of course respect should be first and foremost imho. We are all human. and it is just a game.

I do enjoy reading this forum.. and all the wisely and clever comments.... tho I do dislike reading the judgemental ones. and even tho I know myself i can be quite 'judgie' i try limit my .. involvement in these kinds of topics. I have my own mind and my own ability to decide. yep I have free-will :)

This thread made me

As bad as it sounds, i was rather entertained with all the stories in here.. but please do not wish ill of a goldfish, my boys goldfish really did die and is now in fishy heaven.. my niece held it in her hand whilst it took its last breath, poor little goldfish.. it was so poorly..

I think the boys other 2 goldfish bullied it and wouldn't let it have any food, it was smaller than the other 2, maybe i should slap them around the tank a few times, see how they like it?

To my little goldfish in little fishy heaven, may you R.I.P

I kid you not, i really am telling you the truth!

Mhm,to me player B wouldn't necessarily sound like begging for anything.
Maybe he or she was really just annoyed about being kicked out of an event.
Sometimes when I specifially dressed down when going to events out of fear of being hacked (that was when there was a lot of that going on), I was kicked out of a few events as well.
It was slightly annoying. I just didn't make a thread about it
However if I felt the need to let it out somehow,I'd probably also rather make a thread and ask if people were going through something similar rather than asking for someone to meet me up in game and hang out.
So I don't jump the gun too quickly at creators of such threads.

Somehow, but it does suggest or give the idea that all threads that are venting or expressing sadness are scamming or begging attempts.
Actually it's been discussed several times.
I have stayed out of those threads for a long time, but it's become a little much.
I don't believe in slamming everyone in the same pot with the "bad guys".
