All of your "boo hoo" and "poor me" posts speak for themselves. I try to be fair and give people the benefit of the doubt, but when I see the same things over and over, it is hard to deny a pattern of behavior. Oh and is there a pattern of behavior..... Let's just say, the search feature speaks volumes about someone...... ;)

The indirect begging needs to stop. Those that are guilty know who they are, because they get so very defensive when it is pointed out to them. Then they feel the need to pull out the victim card, which is quite ironic, since so many have been victims of their manipulation. BVG don't allow scamming in the game, they shouldn't allow these manipulative little scammers to operate on the forums either.

What amazes me are all the folks that defend them!
I've seen people being called out, shown proof of of their scammy behavior, yet there are STILL folks that swoop right in and say "There there...don't listen to the haters. They just have a need to bully and be mean to someone!"
I mean...seriously. W.T.H.?? People can not be that naive, right?

Both sides are right , IMO. Yes there are people who try to manipulate others into giving them stuff. But it's the mob mentality that gets people like me to defend them. In a forum environment people start picking on some chosen person every time they say something... anything. Even after they have more or less listened up, stopped telling sad tales and removed the ridiculous wishlist from their siggy. I've seen it happen time and time again and its part of the reason I left forums way back when. There's a person in the forums right now who gets verbally assaulted every time he posts. And I don't think he's been attention/gift seeking for a few days now.
If forum people would give him a chance to show he's changed his ways, he might surprise us. Then again he might not. Trouble is, we will never know. Because the forum paintbrush is apparently forever.

I'm not sure I get what you refer to as a "mob mentality" as I myself post in response to what I see, not to what others are saying.
I'm also not sure I know who you're referring to, but if you choose to believe that a person has changed because a couple of posts are NOT begging for items, directly or indirectly...then that's good for you. I myself, am not that quick to trust. People don't change overnight. I will wait and watch to see if someone has indeed changed. I know it's possible...as I've seen others do it. I just don't turn a blind eye so quickly is all.

Maybe he or she was really just annoyed about being kicked out of an event.
Sometimes when I specifially dressed down when going to events out of fear of being hacked (that was when there was a lot of that going on), I was kicked out of a few events as well.
It was slightly annoying. I just didn't make a thread about it
However if I felt the need to let it out somehow,I'd probably also rather make a thread and ask if people were going through something similar rather than asking for someone to meet me up in game and hang out.
So I don't jump the gun too quickly at creators of such threads.

We all have a bad day once in a while and everyone deals with those differently.
Some may not feel comfortable telling people they know in real life and have an easier time posting their sorrows or hardships on a forum, where people only know their avatar looks and what they have posted previously.

I understand there really are players who try to take advantage of others by posting true or made up stories on the forum, but let's not smash everyone into that same pot.

Here's the difference:

Player A: Hey guys anyone around to chat? Been a rough week and I just want to hang out in game and have some fun....

Player B: OMG I AM SO MAD!!!!!!!!!! I was just at a sale trying to buy (insert old rare or much sought after expensive item here) and I was kicked out for being (add what ever will get the most reaction here)!!!!!!!!!!

It is very obvious when someone is being sincere and need to vent as opposed to the player who is looking for sympathy gifts.

Nor would I if it wasn't a repeated occurance. :)

It's a sad story.. Terry the tortoise went into hibernation...we thought he hadn't woken up. We had a funeral for him and said prayers and did dances and stuff. ( I was 6) .. Later on we found out that we had probably done it too soon... I still have nightmares about Terry digging his way up to freedom..

Okay,now this one makes sense.
If the same player posted rants/vents/hardship stories every single day,or even several times per day, after a while I may grow some doubts as well.
But for me it takes a while to get suspicious.

That is why I said in my original post that it is a pattern of behavior.

I will only speak for myself, but I don't make a habit of pointing those things out until it is a repeated behavior. Like another poster said, it is will free will to gift if you want to and I absolutely agree with that. When I gift it is of my own free will, but I also feel like, just as I would warn someone about losing items in the auction house or through a scam in the game, we should be trying to prevent the manipulators from scamming people on the forum. I don't expect anyone to agree with my opinion on the matter, but I think if we don't allow people to manipulate players in the game, why should they be allowed to in the forums?
