freaking HOURS of work

Dear Amy, I am so sorry for your Doctor Who themed losses. I had a Whovian themed PB characters you might have enjoyed. Sadly, I don't have the screenshots - had I known we were going to lose our work, I would have taken more pics and organized my original files. If we ever get PB ability back, I'd like to donate to your collection.

Hi Emmy, GBU sis Hoping your doing okay, on all this?

Emmy PbArt (1189084) wrote:BVG, this just shows your lack of consideration for your players. Why the heavy handed approach? There are so many other solutions that you could have employed to deal with this issue. What about players who have built entire rooms around boards? I made wallpaper and built a room around and now it's all gone? Do you guys know how many hours of work you have erased with the click of a button?

This is one of the saddest things you've done so far! SO MANY have invested in these and paid a lot to have their art they loved so much, on their boards! How sad that you can think for all of us as to whether or not what was so called done was unacceptable! One of the few things we all agree was a lot of fun to do! I had a whole room dedicated to art from my neighbors and i cherished their work and now IT IS ALL GONE and the many boards i have are useless! So sad!

I'm just coming back onto Yo as I've been on vacay and had no Wi-Fi.
I don't know what happened to precipitate this decision but OMG!!!

I, like every other player, am just devastated by this news. I had an entire black room full of paint boards that I've been purchasing for years. I stopped playing for a long time but have since come back to decorate-especially with my artwork collection. I also had the most beautiful home I've ever done made with all my old YoVille stuff and paint boards. Of course, they're all gone.

I've dealt with a pedophile who s*xx**lly abused my daughter and two other young girls. My baby was 11 at the time. She's 38 now. If this was the reason for BVG's actions, then so be it. I cannot think it would come close to the Federal case involving my daughter, but I have a deep hatred for Pedophiles. And they are everywhere. Child Pornography is one of the most disgusting acts on this planet. Perpetrated by the most evil.

Sorry if this was TMI, but from what I have been reading on this topic, it seems as if this may have been the reason for the hasty action on the part of BVG.

I'm also sorry for all who lost so MUCH of their hard work and money. I want to thank all the Yo's who made this beautiful art possible with all of their time, money and creativity. It is such a terrible loss.

You'd be incorrect. I don't know Canada law, but in the US any business with servers that identifies child porn on any device must contact the FBI immediately. This is usually followed by forensic analysis of the server(s) that can take days, up to and including removal of the physical servers and all related back ups.

If that isn't shutting down the game, please tell me what is?

Where are people getting that's what it was besides speculation? If that is what it was, shut down and ban the accounts doing it.

If it beyond the speculation, and good reasoning behind the speculation, just shut down/ban the accounts doing it was not enough and the action BVG took was done in a likely immediate drastic manner to save the game and they will never be able to fully tell us because legal reasons. In fact, it is know by at least a few YWers what was going on--did someone threaten to tell the FBI? I don't know of the events myself because I am a stay by my lonesome player.

The child porn laws also apply to legal minor who share photos of those they are or have been in relationships with regardless of intent, and that the minors themselves are not pedophiles. I imagine it would apply to even a minor just taking a pic of their significant other, not just sharing it. It would also likely apply to a minor sharing a pic of themselves online, or by email/smart phone call/copies of the photo etc. Someone who knows the law better or who want to google it as I don't right now (just guessing off of an SVU episode). The law is about the images and intent, while maybe mitigation in being prosecuted/sentenced, isn't worth crap as far as breaking the law. Child porn does not require a pedophile or an adult sharing it.

Hi Amaya. Great to see you.

BVG hasn't made a statement about the cause. But the only reason I've been able to see that best fits what happened is that one. There is no other use of a paint board that BVG would risk pissing off the entire player base - except the one that could result in the game being shut down by authorities.

They've already banned those accounts. But the law is clear in the US. Unless BVG can demonstrate a reasonable duty of care that they won't be used that way again, they are at risk from being shut down in perpetuity. They have to be able to submit that they know for certain that their servers retain NO images. (brass frames are different because they only project images that are on FB's servers)

I think the right thing to do was freeze them for all time, and then run some type of scan looking for those with illegal images banning each account where they were found. But I do realize they probably spoke to a lawyer about it, and they got the full story on just how criminally liable they were if they were found. They knee jerked in a panic, but they probably didn't like the idea of being in the news for that.

In response to:

Stormy, the board won't let me quote you properly but, yes, I realize there are myriad ways to peddle pornography.
I am guessing that the type of porn I referred to in my post would explain why BVG took such immediate and drastic action. And yes, litigation most often does have an effect in convicting pedos. The (adult) jerk who abused my daughter and her friends ended up doing 20 years in a state prison for his crime!
That is why I wrote my post the way I did.

Why are people still speculating about this? do you really think you know more than big v's legal department? do you think all this will get our stuff back?

I do not ask this idly. I reallly want to know what you hope to accomplish.

I'm guessing this is a stage of grief that some must go through because of the way this was handled without warning, and was such a shock. Talking about it, speculating, and asking questions, are important for some people to process what just happened. Some of these boards were near and dear to people in ways that many will not be able to truly understand, especially if the artist is no longer with us or if the artwork was of someone very special to them and that image is no longer available for them to see. Or the sudden disappearance of important pieces in a decorated room that can not be replaced is heartbreaking. There are a lot of emotions involved here and I think it's important for people to be able to post their thoughts.

I also think it depends on exactly what they lost.
Lots of us lost treasured art gifted to us by our talented game paint board artists.
But then there are those artists themselves who invested hours and hours creating them.
People who built their game around the paint board because of tours or sales
And those who lost loved ones memorials that have passed away, or made by a player who has passed away.
We each have a different degree of investment in these boards.
The ones who lost the most are hurting the most...........

Then there are those of us empathizing with the others that are so hurt over this....this has broken many hearts within the community. Some very good friends of mine have quit because of this, and I miss them terribly and wish this had not driven them away-but it did.
I respect everybody's degree of reaction to this terrible situation, and will not minimize another's pain just because mine is not as great.

There are some whose game was so wrapped up in paint boards, for a very long time, and now their way of playing is just wiped out.......you gotta feel for these folks. I know I do.

I think we should let people talk and not to try and shut them down by telling them to let it rest. People will have there say and have everyright to voice them aslong its not breaking rules. Things will rest when BVG sorts this mess out but the damaged already been done. Poeple are hurting and they dont need telling to let it rest and such and people are griefing and we all griefing in our own ways.

I have lost boards that were given to me from those players, no longer living. Those are the type of items that actually mattered to me in this game. Things that will never be replaceable regardless of coin totals. What a sad thing when those not breaking the rules are punished in the worst ways. I have lost many rooms that I spent a long time creating as well, but they pale in comparision to the boards given to me from those no longer here.
