Okay, what the heck happened? I had unchecked the "new store" option so I could redecorate without it blocking my view. Suddenly it is back and I cannot find the un-check anywhere in settings.. Helppp, what do I do , cause it is making me cuckoo... And kinda grumpy..

You can disable it by clicking on the cogwheel in the upper right corner. It is there as the last item – "Use New Room Editing Store".
