Does anyone know if Evening primrose oil helps to reduce shedding in dogs? I read this on a blog and was wondering if this will actually work for my dogs Lab/Pit coat.

ohhh I would definitely ask a vet first… being that dogs love to lick themselves.

Its meant to be taken orally. You can put the oil in their food or get them in capsules. I was just curious if it really helps to decrease shedding.

Do some hardcore research first be it on-line or even see if you can give a vet office a call for some 'free advise' on it. Im overly protective of my pooches and wouldn't give them anything unless I've got confirmation that it won't hurt them .. and of course you have to make sure you get the proper dosage based on the animals weight an all..

maybe someone else will hop along here who has some additional knowledge on this oil and pets

Thanks for the tips. I actually did call the vet but you know them...they wanna see the dog and in order to do that its a 50 dollar fee and blah blah blah lol. I can't have kids so my dog is for sure my baby. She is spoiled rotten lol.

aww yeh They easily become a huge important part of our family and lives without a doubt. Mine are getting older already and I dread the day they will leave me.. I wish they could live with us for ever! and ever!

anyway.. a thought.. maybe call a pet store and see if they have any ideas on it (this product). They might even sell it for pets and then if they do it would be cheaper then the vets for sure and the directions should be on the bottle/box of the product they sell?

I found this link with some general products aimed for cats and dogs. This is interesting and now that I think about it I'm quite sure I've seen some of these things on the shelves at my vets coolness!

Personally, I would be careful with the addies out there about pets. I know how you feel about vets though. They have to make a living too but, a vet is the best one to ask. many fangdangled advertisments try to get your funds. A vet will not stir you into hype like these fangdangled adds do, So be cautious what you give your dog.

There is one thing I know that helps with "dander." Not all states sell this product and it only takes a drop a day for it to work on cats or dogs. A vet makes the product.
It will stop some shedding.
I do not remember the name.
I know of only one place in Michigan that sells it.. After I moved I was not able to find the product in this state so if you want to know .. message me. It does not stop shedding but will slow it down a little but it certainly stops dander. ..
