I respectfully disagree, faith and hope beyond the grave had helped a lot of people to survive.

The survival instinct in us is strong :phew:

You are on point, Peach, yes it is the survival instinct/mechanism. Fear is what instinctively prompts us to protect ourselves and our loved ones. Our ancient ancestors survived because as soon as they heard a suspicious sound in the dark night, they got ready with their spears in case it was a wild beast. I have an interesting story. I used to keep 10 cichlids in a fish tank. One of them was white with red eyes. The pet shop owner told me that white cichlids with red eyes were usually almost blind and that he might be the first to die. What really happened was amazing. That almost-blind fish was the very last to die. Why, because he feared the other cichlids, and thus was more cautious than the others. He kept a safe hiding place for himself in the tank. He knew how to avoid trouble with the other cichlids, he knew when and where to get food safely without fighting, and thus he outlived the others. After all the other cichlids died, he dared to swim freely and did not hide anymore. The pet shop keeper could never be more wrong :haha:

Fascinating topic. The instinctive fear mechanism is truly a powerful motivator for action in all species, homo sapiens included. The ability to effectively respond to a threat is an undeniable truth in a species' survival.

Look out, because here comes my "However". LOL :haha:

However, the cognitive abilities inherent to homo sapiens give them an advantage over other species. We are singular in our ability to set aside fear (if we choose), and operate solely on thought and will. Part of that construct is the ability to operate in faith and hope and act accordingly. Part of being "brave" is doing something contrary to the fear instinct. When the allied forces stormed Normandy, they did so in the face of daunting odds. The smell of fear was everywhere. If it was in control, no one would have set foot on that beach. But these men had hope and faith that they could overcome the threat. And they did.

Fear warns us of danger and the need to protect ourselves, but it is hope that gets us out of bed every day. Fear, without hope, can lead to self-destructive behaviors.

From the start I was going to add "intelligence," but did not, for FEAR that I would be called an elitist or whatever, remembering that someone here said I was "SCARILY intelligent" :haha: That said, homo sapiens are not the only species with high cognitive abilities. In many other areas of cognition, some species can easily beat us in a hearbeat. Arrogance, however, is a trait that is typical of homo sapiens only, to even think that their species is "special" and is "above" the other species. About faith and hope, it depends. As long as it is not faith and hope of an afterlife and such, I can agree. I do have faith and hope in myself :haha:

But weren't the world fearful of what Hitler would have continued to do had he not been stopped? It's still fear, and they needed to storm and stop the Nazis & if they didn't who knows what would've happened. In the end, I believe all things that are done contrary to fear, are out of another worse fear.

Its more the fact of, that he would of had the world under a cruel, murderous, hateful dictatorship, and it would of been bad news for everyone thats not a blond haired, blue eyed, fair skinned aryan. Very few, if any, actually wants that, and thats a fact.

Very good point. I think the difference is probably in my definition of fear as it relates to the discussion. I assumed the fear being discussed was "immediate threat". In other words, there's something I know is about to hurt me at this moment. To me what you described is more of a "dread" emotion. But you're accurate when saying everyone feared what that monster would do if he wasn't stopped. And therefore the strategic need to take the beach was a decision based on that overall fear. Well done!

Sorry I missed this post. Hope is not a primal instinct, fear is. Hope is learned, fear is inherent. Therefore, fear plays the foremost and basic role for survival, even before birth.

Just because you mentioned "beyond the grave," I'd rather not say anything about it. Why? Because everything I would write would be against the Forum TOS :haha: I need this fear for survival (in this Forum) :haha:

There's a huge fire raging just north of me now that's been going for weeks. The smoke from it has been really bad. So, I guess we need to rake the forest more often than we have been...
