Such a funny word to have evolved into the mainstream lexicon the way it has. Labelling things sure does seem to be a ruthless way to attempt to try to shut people up that we disagree with. Instead of sticking to an issue, if I can label you, malign your intent, undermine your credibility, or categorize your person, I can effectively win the discussion without ever submitting a fact or having my opinion challenged.

The problem with too many people in the public eye is that they feed into the monster. Instead of standing up for what they know is right, they cower from speaking out and facing the court of public opinion. We've effectively salted away any dissent from what the mob decrees is the acceptable status quo of right and wrong. Social media is used as a battering ram to force the mighty to eat their words bite by bite. And instead of eviscerating the beast, they simply end up feeding it their own essence.

This world is going to end itself. We have too many people and too few effective leaders. Fear is the only thing that matters any more, and fear is never the right reason to do anything.

Sorry for the downer. I used to be hopeful about a great many things. But the longer I watch what we are becoming, the more I understand that we will never get out of our own way. The culture of pride & lies will be our undoing.

I don't like cancel culture. Instead, if someone does or says something that is legitimately wrong (i.e. something racist) it should be an opportunity to learn from that and not make the mistake again. And then move on, very simple. I don't know why people get hung up on one thing someone said.

It's been inspired about a lot of things over the last ten years. Politics, entertainment, education, social controversy, etc etc. I had some conversations this weekend where people were completely convinced about "facts" related to different topics. Me being me, I usually end up trying to source things that people talk about that I don't understand. And a lot if the time, I end up finding out the answers on Snopes. LOL

The mob of social media doesn't know everything. They think they do, but often what they "know", is really just what they "feel". Truth, logic, and reason are irrelevant to them. If they think it, it is. Period.

We are destined to screw ourselves over, no matter how much we want to deny that we're not doing it, we are.

Reality is so much easier to deal with when you just face up to the fact that labels are just that. Social media isn't very social at all, unless behaving like a screaming 5 year old that you are right and everyone else is wrong and having online arguments or threatening people online is social..... (you can keep it) and the world is going to actually end itself at some point in time due to humans again, not looking after what's important.

Reality is harsh, but reality is much easier to work with than the constant bull manure we keep feeding everyone and ourselves.
