Straw polls and other nonscientific surveys are based on indiscriminate collections of people’s opinions, while responsible surveys are based on scientific methods of sampling, data collection, and analysis. Yet, because they are so easy to obtain, data derived from nonscientific methods are often confused with responsible survey results. At best, they reflect only the views of those who choose to respond. But they are also used as tools of “spin” by those who wish to put forth a particular slant on popular opinion.
Scientific polls accurately reflect and describe public opinion. The key factor that dictates whether a poll is scientific or not is whether the group who is surveyed is selected randomly. In a randomly selected group, it is the surveyors, not the surveyed, who select potential respondents. Polls in which people choose to participate, such as Internet polls, are not scientific.
There are two different types of polls that can be performed: the scientific poll and the unscientific poll. The unscientific poll consists of examples such as 900-number call in surveys, man on the street polls, some internet polls, and shopping mall polls. In these polls respondents often volunteer their answers, rather than being chosen, and only give the opinions of those surveyed rather than providing an accurate picture of the overall population. It is important to note that unscientific poll results can rarely be trusted and are merely useful as a means of entertainment.
An open access poll is a type of opinion poll in which a nonprobability sample of participants self-select into participation. The term includes call-in, mail-in, and some online polls.
The most common examples of open access polls ask people to phone a number, click a voting option on a website, or return a coupon cut from a newspaper. By contrast, professional polling companies use a variety of techniques to attempt to ensure that the polls they conduct are representative, reliable and scientific. The most glaring difference between an open access poll and a scientific poll is that scientific polls typically randomly select their samples and sometimes use statistical weights to make them representative of the target population.

In a scientific poll, the pollster identifies and seeks out the people to be interviewed. In an unscientific poll, the respondents usually “volunteer” their opinions, selecting themselves for the poll.
This is clearly an unscientific poll, respondents volunteered their opinions selecting themselves for the poll.
You really have had an attitude towards me and for the life of me I can't figure out why.Karma YED (167876742) wrote:LOL.... I did not realize she had to Hand pick the responders, so you would except this polls results....

I don't remember anyone claimed that this poll was "scientific". This is just a causal forum poll not an academic study. LOL

100 people on the forums voting yes on this poll would be pretty insignificant. No offense to anyone on this thread.
While I actually agree on that, I mean this is a huge community only 300 people voting, might not show a healthy result.
On the other hand, I was thinking, when researchers do some social survays, they usually ask 100 people and consider the results as meaningful. When I think about that, may be this actually shows the general idea? ... not sure though.
This is not a random scientific poll. Not only that but 3 of the answers amount to the same thing and are the first 3 choices, there is only a "Definite NO" not an even "Leaning mostly NO" so I would say the poll answers lean towards the OP (who wants rereleases). A fairer poll would have had the following choices: "definite Yes" "leaning mostly Yes" "definite No" "leaning mostly No".
And again I bet most people would vote for BVG to give everyone 100 yc a week. Just because the majority vote for it, that doesn't make it a good idea.
