When the US palaeontologist Othniel C Marsh discovered a dinosaur in 1879, he called it ‘brontosaurus’, meaning ‘thunder lizard but the brontosaurus was later removed from from lists of dinosaur names when Marsh’s dinosaur was found to be an adult apatosaurus.
