My stance is unchanged. The issue is always about content people want. When people want, they change their behavior. It doesn't matter if they have 300 million coins or 30. I'm amazed at how often we see players who claim to hate yo cash, wearing stuff that is yo cash. People act when they want - ie: Cloche Hats.

I agree that BVG needs to provide us with things that we want, but that argument is way too simplified. I don't see it as that cut and dried. If the claim that only 5% of players buy is accurate, then their options are two fold. Either find a way to get more than 5% to spend (would be interesting to know how this number compares not only with other online games but with Yo's own history), OR attract a vast amount of new players to make up the difference. I have the feeling that either option would be an uphill climb.
Saying that BVG should give current players what they want seems simple in and of itself, but what DO players want? Some want re-releases, others do not. Some want unreleased rares. Some are happy with new items, no matter what the quality and others are not. As you said, ironically enough, generalizing people spending patterns won't help, as there are myriad and ever-changing ways that people play this game. Saying "give players what they want" is far too vague. And I'm not sure that BVG knows what players want. They know what we don't want. But will that help them in any way?
But for argument's sake, let's say that BVG stumbled upon the magic "want" that fulfilled the desires of the majority of players. Would more than 5% spend real money? Would they need to spend real money? As others have said, many of us won't. Sure some will because it's easy. But most of us can scrounge up 1m+ in under a minute. Which would definitely put a damper on BVG's ability to profit from current players. There's a major coin problem in this game. And BVG is hurting themselves in serval ways i.e. offering previously premium items for coins and re-opening the YoCash side of the AH. Those two things will eat majorly into their profits. Regardless of whether or not they are offering what people want.
As far as attracting new players, if we assume this 5% figure doesn't change, they'd have to at least double or triple their current monthly average users (in a hurry). Greg said their monthly operating costs (excluding their initial purchase loan) are in excess of $150,000/month. Let's say the average player spends $10 per month. They'd need 15,000 monthly paying players. At 5%, that would mean at least 300,000 players. And that's just to cover their expenditures. That doesn't count FaceBook's 30% cut or their initial purchase price loan. Where will those players come from? And those are the ones who would need to stick around - that doesn't even account for the majority of people who try something and lose interest immediately. That's a lot of people who would need to come into this game and accept the flaws, the class system, the economy, etc.

I'll use Halloween as my example. When good Halloween items are made available, most players start wanting REAL bad. That 5% number jumps drastically depending on the quality of wants available. Dealers become hard to find as players use their own cash to get their wants. This forces even MORE purchases or leaves some players out.
Good items that are wanted will save this game. Nothing else. It doesn't matter what these items are. I want blue bug hair. I want a cool Matrix theme. I want actions I can do to other players without having them 'accept'. These are wants I will pay for. Everyone has their list. The key for BVG is to find the common list of wants and satisfy as many as they can. Time will tell.
