Last night I found some players pretending to be homeless and bathing in the Fountain of Yo. There were some other players who were pretty bent out of shape that these players were mocking homeless people. They seemed to be kids having fun and some of the things they did and said were kinda funny, but for once something kinda rustled my jimmies as homelessness for many people is a cruel reality. So I will put it to the masses to be the moral compass on what is acceptable. Would this bother you to see players doing this, even if it is just a game? What if they were pretending to be special needs people? Or a specific race? Gender? Is it ever ok to be silly in Yo at the expense of any group?

My moral compass tells me that when comedy is devoid of any empathy, it's no longer funny.

well rod, imho, there is a huge difference acting silly and mocking others. especially homeless people. 70% of these]people are homeless through no fault of their own, due to Americas economy. how do I know this? my 12 yr old
grandson and I volunteer at a homeless shelter. After I actually sat down and talked to a homeless lady it became
clear to me.

mocking any group of humans is not acceptable to me in either rl or an interactive game.

I see it as some fun. They don't mean any harm by it, and theres way worse going on in YoVille.

If they were mocking the homeless, that's different though.

For me, I pretend to be a female all the time. If I can't do it in the real world, what's going to stop me from doing it in a virtual game.

Mocking someone pretending to be homeless just isn't very amusing period. Hope they're not like this irl.

It takes a special kind of stupid to mock someone, or an entire group, just for their own amusment. As a jokester myself, i find humor in alot of things, but i know where to draw the line.

I don't like when people try to be Puerto Rican and plenty of latinos do that. Being another race or acting like you have special needs is pointless and not funny at all. I don't make fun of the homeless since I have quite a few friends that are drug addicts and live in the streets right now. It's a tough life so I don't think that is funny at all. Still, maybe the kids didn't mean to harm anybody and were just being kids. I don't mind strong jokes but in this game I have yet to see a comedian so it does bother me when they do it to make others laugh, with me they always fail. Whatever they do it's their thing, I can't really tell people what to do, all that I can do is speak my mind like I just did.

for me its normally about intentions. in this case, i personally wouldnt have been bothered. there is far worse ingame, i dont see this example sounding cruel. then again, it may depend on my current mood and how far i read into it. basically though, i dont think i would bat an eyelash. i cant afford to to worry about such things, i do enough of that outside the game... so i kind of switch off ingame, as much as i can

From time to time I run into a guy named Yobo (I think?) outside Alton's. His whole gimmick is that he's Yobo the yoworld hobo. He stands out there on the street with his shopping cart while he chats. It honestly never occurred to me to be offended by it.

Humor is a double edge sword

there are plenty of ways to cut loose --

realities of our world are rarely truly funny ..... but caricatures are accepted forms of humor of even the most difficult of our struggles

Lot to be said for using humor as a way to assist in bringing things to light -- without the antics no one reading this would be remembering that homelessness is a very real issue that everyone faces but are normally powerless to correct
