This is the first missive written by someone explaining...

All search engines have bots, they will request pages and follow the links on pages. This allows them to index the content on a page for search results. This could also be called a "spider" because like a spider it will walk the web.

phpBB identifies the bots through their user agent string which is why you can see them listed in the online listing.

***continued with this and the how the site admin can stop the bots, wonder if they should step them?
Yes but there is no spyware about it, the bot is just downloading publicly available pages* for indexing. They do this on every site on the internet. For example this page has already been spidered by the Googles bot:

*A site owner can restrict what pages the bot downloads using a file called robots.txt.

Googlebot was designed to be distributed on several machines to improve performance and scale as the web grows. Also, to cut down on bandwidth usage, we run many crawlers on machines located near the sites they're indexing in the network. Therefore, your logs may show visits from several machines at google.com, all with the user-agent Googlebot. Our goal is to crawl as many pages from your site as we can on each visit without overwhelming your server's bandwidth...

So this is what I was wondering.. more then one bot can crawl a server (why they call them spiders) and they can take up bandwidth, which BVG is paying for, so wonder how much they take and if they can also keep players from loading the game if multiple bots are crawling? This is probably why they tell admins of websites how to block them.

Do those Bots get triggered when someone Googles for the YoForum?? Or are they random?

Well, they are called spiders so I think they just work the web and search out information. I am just curious as to how often they do this and and how much bw they take up as they do it and if they take the place of players when the servers are busy? Why else would they have a tutorial on how to remove them.

Googlebot, Bingbot, and MSNbot and similar spiders, bots, and crawlers are the programs that harvest information for search engines.

For anyone tracking statistics on their website, Googlebot, MSNbot, and Bingbot can be welcomed guests. These three search engine bots gather (harvest) information about your page for their respective search engine. Seeing these spiders or bots more often is also desirable because this means that you are being indexed more often and more likely to show up quickly in the SERPs (search engine results page).

A spider is nothing more than a computer program that follows certain links on the web and gathers information as it goes. For example, Googlebot will follow HREF or SRC tags (tag related to website) to find pages and images that are associated with any given site. Because these crawlers are merely computer programs, they aren't always the smartest of creatures and may get caught in endless loops built by dynamically created webpages.

As YoWorld is still new and it is being indexed on several search engines for better page ranking or say to get top rank on SE's.

It doesn't collect user data or information so nothing to worry about. :)
